NO HEAT GENERATION OR THERMAL RUNAWAY


Chemical batteries produce heat during operation which, at a certain point, can become exothermic, meaning it burns at a temperature that is self-sustaining and extremely difficult to extinguish. Because WEST modules operate without creating heat, this risk of fire does not exist.

WARRANTY


Modules are scalable energy storage building blocks with an expected lifespan of 45 years. WEST storage systems far surpass the average lifespan of Li-ion solutions.

CYCLES PER DAY


WEST modules are capable of more than two charging and discharging cycles per day. Many chemical battery warranties are voided by over-cycling or simply limited to one cycle/day or less.

WEST modules are 97% efficient at the module level. Compare this to many Li-ion batteries that lose as much as  10% (in heat) in every cycle. Over time these Li-ion losses increase and become even more prohibitively expensive.

Many Li-Ion battery manufacturers tell customers they can use 100% of the storage. With chemical batteries this can only be achieved by either:
1) Placing more than nameplate capacity into the system or
2) Building significant degradation
allowance into the warranty.

Proven in the field in extreme temperatures for 10 years without measurable degradation. Since the technology provides for electrostatic storage (energy stored as energy), instead of a heat-producing electrochemical reaction (energy stored in a chemical), there is no stress on the materials over time.

OPERATE IN EXTREME HEAT & COLD


WEST modules can operate in a wide range of temperatures, from -40ºF to +150ºF / -40ºC to +65ºC without experiencing damage. Li-Ion batteries will  experience permanent damage at temperatures below  -5ºC / 23ºF and above +45ºC / 113ºF.

VIRTUALLY NO MAINTENANCE


WEST modules need virtually no periodic maintenance. They monitor and protect themselves throughout their lifetimes. Every part or component can be repaired and replaced in the field.

Exceptionally Long Life: WEST modules are built to last  for decades by incorporating the highest quality parts and our uniquely designed supercaps. Backing our commitment to quality and performance, every WEST product offers a 20 year warranty, the longest warranty available in the industry.  

Wide Operational Temperature Range and No Parasitic Loads Required: WEST modules can operate in nearly any environment, cold or hot, without reduced performance. As such, they don’t require any portion of the energy produced or stored to be dedicated to heating or cooling the system.

WEST optimized supercapacitors are much closer to ideal storage than any other battery technology on the market. While most other technologies display “best case isolated attribute” on their datasheet, their typical operating values are dramatically different from the datasheet values. 

Because of the electrostatic nature of the WEST modules, our datasheets don’t show our “best case”, they reflect our ALWAYS case. We are committed to bringing honest values to this market, and we mean it. 

Cost-Effective: Due to their long life, ability to cycle more rapidly and frequently, tolerance to hot and cold environments, and high round-trip efficiency, WEST modules provide every customer with the LOWEST long-term cost of ownership. The WEST storage system life is equal to or longer than the overall system life. So, with WEST you are warrantied for 20 years, and can expect more than 30 years of top performance. Field-Serviceable Modules: Every board and component in WEST modules, including the supercaps themselves, can be replaced or serviced in the field with a small bag of parts and tools. This eliminates the time, expense, and hassle of shipping modules back to a service team, and assures minimal downtime.

Exceptional Efficiency: Lost efficiency is lost money in every cycle. A 10% loss in efficiency means that you pay 10% more every single time you store and use energy with your system. Operating at >97% round-trip efficiency, our storage systems are the most efficient in the market. With WEST, your savings will really add up over time!

Seamless Modular Scalability: WEST customers can start small and add additional storage capacity 5 or 10 years into the future at the original nameplate capacity. Autonomous Protection Features: WEST modules include soft-start and safe-connection checks, that constantly monitor for over-voltage, over-current, and voltage differentials to protect themselves and surrounding equipment. WEST modules are also capable of self-balancing by moving toward a desired reference voltage before connecting, which ensures fast, easy, and safe starts – every time.
